Leander is a city in Williamson and Travis Counties, Texas, in the northwest corner of the Austin metropolitan area. With a population of roughly 90,000, it has grown from a small Hill Country town into one of the Austin region's largest suburbs, defined by a ring of master-planned communities and a direct rail link to downtown Austin.
The city is the northern terminus of CapMetro Rail's Red Line, a commuter rail service that runs from Leander through northwest Austin to the downtown, connecting residents to the city's employment and entertainment centers. U.S. Highway 183 and the 183A tollway, along with FM 1431 and Ronald Reagan Boulevard, form the backbone of the local road network, placing downtown Austin roughly 22 miles to the southeast.
