Boerne is a city in and the county seat of Kendall County, Texas, set in the rolling terrain of the Texas Hill Country about 31 miles northwest of San Antonio along I-10. Its story begins in 1849, when a group of German colonists established a settlement they called Tusculum on the north bank of Cibolo Creek. Within a few years the townsite was platted and renamed Boerne, honoring German author Ludwig Börne, and the spring-fed creek that first drew settlers remains the town's defining natural feature. That German-Texan heritage still shapes Boerne's identity. The historic Main Street, with its limestone storefronts, anchors a downtown known for independent shops, restaurants, and festivals, while Cibolo Creek runs alongside, framing a riverfront walkway and community spaces.
