Del Valle ISD is the school district for the eastern and southeastern parts of 78744 and 78747, including the fast-growing Easton Park community, even though the mailing address still says Austin. This is the surprise that catches a lot of buyers on the southeast side: your home can read "Austin, TX" and be Del Valle ISD, not Austin ISD. Here's how the district maps to your home search, the schools, where Easton Park lands, and how to confirm the exact campus for any address.
Source: Del Valle ISD, 2026. The district has been adding campuses to keep pace with growth in Easton Park and along the SH-130 corridor, so figures change. I confirm the current campus for any address.
Del Valle ISD serves southeast Austin near the airport and the SH-130 corridor. It's smaller than Austin ISD but growing fast, which is why it's been building new schools and expanding existing ones to keep up with the families moving into Easton Park and the surrounding area.
The key thing to understand is the split with Austin ISD. In the southeast ZIPs, the district line runs right through the ZIP, so the mailing city does not tell you the district:
| Area | District | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 78744, eastern side (Easton Park) | Del Valle ISD | Easton Park zones to Del Valle schools |
| 78744, western side | Austin ISD | Akins / Travis zones |
| 78747, eastern side | Del Valle ISD | Toward Del Valle and SH-130 |
| 78747, western side | Austin ISD | Akins zone |
| 78617 (Del Valle) | Del Valle ISD | The core of the district, east toward the airport |
So two neighbors in 78744 or 78747 can be in different districts. If you're weighing the Austin ISD side too, see my Austin ISD guide and the Central Texas school districts overview. And always confirm the exact assignment by address.
Del Valle ISD is (for now) a single-comprehensive-high-school district, so nearly everyone in the district is zoned to Del Valle High School. A couple of things worth knowing:
Early College option. Del Valle High runs an Early College High School program through a partnership with Austin Community College, so students can earn college credit alongside their diploma, a real value for college-bound families.
A second high school is coming. The district has approved a second comprehensive high school to keep pace with the growth in Easton Park and southeast Austin. Until it opens, plan on Del Valle High, and I'll flag any boundary changes as the new campus comes online.
Easton Park is the community most buyers ask me about on this side, and it's firmly Del Valle ISD. The headline is that Newton Collins Elementary sits inside Easton Park itself, so many families in the community are zoned right to a neighborhood school. Beyond Easton Park, Del Valle ISD runs nine elementary campuses (including Baty, Gilbert, Hillcrest, Popham, and Smith) and three middle schools (Dailey, Del Valle, and Ojeda). The specific elementary and middle school is set by your street, and with the district adding campuses, zones can shift, so I confirm the current assignment before you make an offer.
The single most common school surprise I see in southeast Austin is a buyer who assumes an "Austin, TX" address means Austin ISD, when the home is actually Del Valle ISD. That's not good or bad on its own, Del Valle has real strengths, including the Early College program and brand-new campuses, but it's a different district with a different high school, and you want to know that going in. In 78744 and 78747 especially, I check the district and the campus for the exact address before you tour.
Use Del Valle ISD's official boundary lookup. The district publishes a find-my-school tool where you enter an address and it returns the assigned elementary, middle, and high school. That's the source of truth, not the real estate listing, which can show the wrong district entirely on a split-ZIP address.
Or ask me. Send me an address or a neighborhood, in Easton Park or anywhere on the southeast side, and I'll confirm whether it's Del Valle ISD or Austin ISD, pull the current campuses, and flag anything, like a new school opening, that affects your decision.
Tell me the school or community you're aiming for and I'll build your search around it. Start with the Central Texas school districts overview, then the living guides for the southeast ZIPs, 78744 (home to Easton Park) and 78747. Relocating? The South Austin relocation guide and the South Austin buyer's guide are the next stops.
Last updated: September 2026. School boundaries and campuses change as the district grows, so confirm the current assignment for any specific address.
Del Valle ISD serves Easton Park and much of southeast Austin. Confirm the zone by address, since 78744 and 78747 split between districts.
